Not just anyone can join the Monkeynastix team!
Instructors have to be creative, energetic, engaging, passionate about health and fitness, and most importantly love working with children. While these qualities are essential to delivering the best possible program, our staff also come from backgrounds in a number of relevant fields – fitness, kinesiology, health sciences, teaching, child studies, therapy, etc.
Each Monkeynastix Instructor is fully qualified having completed our Monkeynastix Training Course and hold current CPR/First Aid, Police clearances with vulnerable sector screening and up to date immunizations.
Jennifer van der Wath:
Jennifer van der Wath, is an entrepreneur and mother of three children. With a background as a Yoga Instructor, Jennifer has always believed in leading a healthy, active life. Jennifer has a HBA in Political Science from The University of Western Ontario. Jennifer learned firsthand as parent the benefit of Monkeynastix, when her son was enrolled at his school. Jennifer and her husband had researched purchasing several different Franchises in Canada, but none seemed to “fit”. Encompassing not only their love for children and fitness, but their desire to continue to work for themselves, Monkeynastix was the perfect fit. Utilizing her experience in customer service, health and fitness as well as marketing and administration Jennifer oversees the running of Monkeynastix Canada, which includes Monkeynastix Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Hamilton, Brampton, Etobicoke and Niagara.
Monkeynastix Burlington/Oakville Instructors:
Heather is the Monkeynastix Burlington/Oakville Manager. She started with us in January 2016 and is a certified High School physical education teacher. Heather is a graduate of the Concurrent Education Program at Brock University with an Honours Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education. She developed a love for health and physical education in high school, where she volunteered in her school’s fitness centre at lunch and after school, participated on various sports team and was introduced to exercise science. Heather is a competitive fastpitch softball player, and has been in the sport for 20 years, including 3 years on the Brock University team. Her love for physical education drives a passion for teaching children to be physically literate; preparing them for life long participation in sport and physical activity. Heather is at her happiest when she is working with the children at Monkeynastix, helping them become confident in their physical abilities!
Cynthia is an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) with a passion for fitness who enjoys working with children of all ages. She graduated as an ECE in 1995, and started a long 17-year career as a teacher leading baby and toddler classrooms at different daycares and Montessori schools. Cynthia joined the Monkeynastix team in January 2016 and fell in love with the program. As a mother of 3 great kids ages 10, 7 and 4, she knows the importance of staying healthy and fit. Cynthia truly enjoys teaching the children and watching them grow, flourish and become passionate about health, fitness, and of course, Monkeynastix.
Samantha is a recent Health, Wellness and Fitness graduate who enjoys sharing her passion for healthy living. Samantha has an advanced sport background; having participated competitively on various athletic teams and is an accomplished figure skater. Being a Skate Canada Professional Coach, Samantha has experience working with children of various ages and athletic abilities. She loves working with children and sharing her passion for health and fitness.
Sarah is a certified elementary school teacher who graduated from the University of Western Ontario. She is qualified to teach all elementary levels, working with students from kindergarten to grade 8. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys cooking, reading, hanging out with her 2 year old dog Stella, and playing ringette. Sarah has played ringette for 18 years, and plans to play for many, many more! Monkeynastix has given Sarah the opportunity to incorporate her love for teaching with physical activity, and she couldn’t be happier!
Karla is a certified primary/junior teacher who received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. She has over 10 years experience working with children and youth in recreational and experiential learning settings. Karla loves staying active in the fitness community through participation in yoga, strength training and rock climbing. She is currently studying to obtain her Personal Training Specialist certification through Canfit Pro. She loves that being a Children’s Fitness Instructor allows her to bring her enthusiasm for healthy active living to the children in her community.
