3 Pillars of Whole Child Development
Strength and flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, gross and fine motor skills, balance and co-ordination, eye hand and eye foot co-ordination, manipulative skills and speed and agility.
Independence, socialization, taking turns, teamwork, sharing, making new friends, following directions, conflict resolution
Counting, colours, creative play, problem solving, healthy lessons. By focusing on skill development, we ensure that children are increasing their physical literacy and in turn, giving them the tools they need to be active and healthy for life!
Experts agree that physical literacy is just as important as reading, writing, and arithmetic. At Monkeynastix, your child will get the right start! Physical literacy comes from developing a wide variety of fundamental movement skills such as hopping, skipping, throwing, catching, and jumping. Kids have a lot more fun being active when they are physically literate.
Physically active kids get higher grades in school, have better social skills, and are happier and more confident. As a parent, give your child the right start in sport, school, and life. Enroll them in programs that develop physical literacy, and get them started with activities at home.
Active Start – ABC’s of Movement (ages 1 to 6 years)
From birth to ages 6, children need to be engaged in daily active play. Through play and movement, they develop the fundamental movement skills that will provide the foundation for learning fundamental sports skills at older ages. From a young age children need to be introduced to unstructured active play that incorporates a variety of body movements.
Children at this age need to develop the ABCs of movement – Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed. The ABCs are essential for developing fundamental movement skills, and fundamental movement skills will later provide the foundation for fundament sport skills.
Together, the fundamental movement skills and fundamental sport skills create the basis of physical literacy.
At Monkeynastix, children work on these skills through our fun and engaging classes and leave Monkeynastix feeling happy, confident and energized!
Children in the FUNdamental stage are motivated primarily by the desire to have FUN! They are far less concerned with competitive results than they are with having fun, being with friends and developing a strong self-esteem.
Having developed the foundations of fundamental movement skills, our 6-8 year old members will begin refining their fundamental movement skills by introducing them to the fundamental sport skills (i.e.: kicking, catching, throwing etc).
